Car crashes into policeman on motorcycle

GEORGE TOWN, Jan 5: A policeman was injured when a car crashed into his motorcycle in an incident at Jalan Thean Teik here yesterday.

Timur Laut district police chief ACP Soffian Santong said the incident occurred at about 11.50 pm when the 26-year-old policeman, who is based at the Jalan Patani police station, was riding his motorcycle to return home from work.

“The victim’s motorcycle was hit from behind by a car driven by a 55-year-old man who was also on his way home to Balik Pulau,“ he said in a statement today.

According to the car driver, the motorcycle suddenly appeared in front of him, who was driving in the middle lane, he said, adding that the car driver tried to dodge to the left lane but collided with the victim.

He said the policeman was hurt on the hand and forehead after falling on the windshield of the car and is currently being treated at the Penang Hospital.

The car driver, who claimed to be a retiree, then lodged a police report on the incident, he added.- Bernama
