SINGAPORE: Motorists are advised to avoid the Tuas Second Link as Singapore and Malaysia’s agencies are currently holding a biennial bilateral chemical spill emergency response exercise until 2pm today.

The exercise involving National Environment Agency (NEA), Singapore, and the Department of Environment (DOE), Malaysia, together with several other agencies, kicked off at 6am.

In its website, NEA said traffic diversion is expected during the date and time and motorists are advised to closely follow the traffic marshals’ directions at the site.

NEA said the exercise will simulate a chemical spill along the Tuas Second Link where a lorry and a truck are involved in a collision.

“Arising from the collision, chemicals being transported by the truck leaked onto the road. For this exercise, four chemical drums will be simulated to be damaged with some fumes released.

“The public is advised not to be alarmed,“ it said. — Bernama
