SUNGAI BULOH: China’s Ambassador to Malaysia Bai Tian (pix) was full of praise for Malaysia’s Health Ministry for the care extended to China nationals hospitalised in the country after they were found to have contracted Covid-19.
Speaking to the media after visiting four Chinese Covid-19 patients who were cured and discharged from the Sungai Buloh Hospital here today together with Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye, he said one of the patients told him that they were grateful to receive treatment at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.
“They are touched by the hospitality and special care and love they received,” he said, adding that the hospital took the trouble to provide doctors who could speak fluent Mandarin to them during the treatment. .
The four patients were discharged after three weeks of treatment. They left the hospital without meeting the media.
They are the first, second, third and fifth confirmed Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, involving a grandmother, mother and two children.
Bai Tian further praised the ministry for its professionalism in tackling the Covid-19 situation in Malaysia, especially in providing clear information to mitigate unnecessary fears.
Meanwhile, Lee said the four patients were not given any specific antiviral medicine because their own immune systems were able to get rid of the Covid-19 virus.
He said they were discharged because they have no more symptoms and also two times tested negative continuously in more than 24 hours.
“On antiviral treatment, we are still awaiting more results from China because they are reporting that certain drugs might be useful.”
He hoped the Covid-19 outbreak could be controlled in a short time, adding that all countries should face it together.
The new coronavirus outbreak, which started in Wuhan, China, has left more than 1,300 people dead to date and more than 64,000 people infected worldwide. Malaysia has recorded 19 cases with seven having recovered and discharged including the four from the Sungai Buloh Hospital today. - Bernama
