KUALA LUMPUR: A police constable was among 429 offenders detained by police during a two-day drug operation in the city.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) director Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said the operation codenamed “Ops Club Rats” was initiated as part of police’s continuous crackdown on drug abuse at entertainment outlets in the city.

“This time we target nightclubs in the heart of the city. We also initiated ‘Operation Blue Devil’ to eradicate the usage of drugs among police personnel. The constable detained was a 27-year-old man.

“For police personnel who consume drugs, I believe it will affect the way you think. In other words, you take drugs, you get ‘brain disease’. We can’t have people with ‘brain disease’ in the force,“ he told a media conference at the City police headquarters here yesterday.

Mohd Khalil said police screened a total of 1,350 party-goers on Sept 28 and 29 and 429 tested positive for drug abuse. The suspects were aged between 18 and 41 years old.

“Of the total drug abuse suspects, 35 were foreigners. We will continue our operation but we may change our strategy because we have to continue our momentum in our war against drugs,“ he added.

Meanwhile, City police chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim, who was also present during the media conference, said the entertainment licence of night clubs will be revoked if they still continue to cater to drug abusers and police will monitor them closely from now on.

Mazlan reiterated that police will not compromise in their efforts to eradicate drug abuse in the city centre by cracking down on entertainment outlets.
