PUTRAJAYA: A policeman is being investigated for allegedly assaulting a motorcyclist at a restaurant near the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here, last Sunday.

Putrajaya district police chief ACP Rosly Hassan said this followed a police report lodged by a man at the Dengkil Police Station, Sepang, yesterday who was allegedly beaten by a policeman at a restaurant near PICC for trying to flee from a police check.

“An investigation has been conducted against the police personnel under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt,“ he said in a statement today following a 49-second video clip going viral showing a policeman kicking and slapping a man.

On the incident at about 1.40am on Sunday, Rosly said the patrol police received information that a group of motorcyclists were racing and riding dangerously at the Seri Gemilang Bridge area, near PICC.

According to him, the patrol car had tailed one of the motorcyclists who was speeding and riding recklessly over the Gemilang Bridge and crashed into a restaurant falling to the floor.

He said the patrol team managed to arrest the motorcyclist and pillion rider.

“A witness also lodged a police report saying the motorcycle almost crashed into the restaurant’s dining table while trying to escape from a police check,“ he said. — Bernama
