ALOR STAR: The corporate sector are urged to work with the government to make the National Welfare Foundation’s Anjung Kasih temporary shelter project a success for the benefit of the families of patients undergoing hospital treatment.
Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Hannah Yeoh said contributions are welcome to upgrade and manage the existing Anjung Kasih facilities.
She said the donations will also help build new facilities in hospitals.
“Corporate sponsorship will help to improve and increase facilities which are needed at the centres,” she told reporters after launching the new Anjung Kasih facility at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB), here today.
She added that so far, the corporations which have sponsored Anjung Kasih are Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) in Serdang Hospital, Selangor, as well as in the Malacca Hospital; Petronas in the Duchess Of Kent Hospital, Sabah; Petronas Foundation in Putrajaya Hospital; and Sunway Group in Seberang Prai Hospital, Penang.
“To date, we have 12 Anjung Kasih facilities in major hospitals throughout the country, while four more are being set up and due to be completed at the latest by next year.
“The cost of setting up Anjung Kasih is between RM800,000 and RM1 million, so we welcome sponsorship from corporate bodies to either build new facilities or to upgrade existing ones for the benefit of the families of B40 patients,” Hannah said.
She added that since it first began in 2006, the Anjung Kasih project had benefited 75,299 people with 620 beds.
“We only collect a small deposit of RM20 for the dormitories and RM30 for a family room,” she said. - Bernama
