Datuk businessman claims trial to false letter charge

SEREMBAN: A businessman with a ‘Datuk’ title pleaded not guilty in the magistrate’s court here to a charge of submitting a fraudulent letter to prevent rent arrears amounting to RM40,000 from being collected, last year.

Datuk S. Thavarajah, 73, made the plea after the charge was read out to him before magistrate Mahyun Yusof.

According to the charge sheet, the businessman was accused of preventing the rent arrears owed to Syarikat Redza Security Sdn Bhd director N.Mohana Sundram, 58, from being collected by submitting a false letter.

He was alleged to have committed the offence at a premises at No. 23, Jalan Durian Emas 3, Betaria Business Centre here at 2.11pm, on Nov 30, 2018.

The charge, under Section 422 of the Penal Code, provides for imprisonment for up to five years or fine or both, upon conviction.

The court allowed the accused bail of RM3,000 in one surety and set Sept 13 for mention.
