Death in a paddy field

ARAU: An 82-year-old person with disability (OKU) was found dead in a paddy field on Jalan Mini Tar, Taman Guar Halban near here this morning.

Arau district police chief, Supt Nanda Maarof, said Leha Matt, 82, from Kampung Alor Lancang in Jejawi, Arau was pronounced dead at the scene.

He said early investigation shows the mishap happened around 10.30am and that there was heavy rain and the road was slippery when the victim lost control of her three-wheel motorcycle and crashed into the paddy field near her house.

“When members of the public discovered the body, she was lying in the water-filled field with the motorcycle on top of her,” he said today.

He said the cause of death is still being established and that the body has been brought to Hospital Tuanku Fauziah in Kangar for a post-mortem examination.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act. — Bernama
