DPMM president accuses members of holding illegal EGM

PETALING JAYA: The president of the Malay Chambers of Commerce Malaysia (DPMM) has slammed its members for conducting an unconstitutional extraordinary general meeting (EGM) which was held today.

In a press statement, Rizal Faris Mohideen said the EGM was held to call for his removal by Syed Hussein Al Habshee and 17 other members.

“Their action has stalled the chamber’s plans to inject momentum and scale up programmes. We have been working at it since I was appointed as the chamber’s president last year. Today they continued to disrupt our AGM,“ he said.

Rizal said his agenda as president was to stop the toxic politics which has stunted the organisation for the last few decades and to reform the chambers as a credible and reliable partner to the government in developing the nation.

“This kind of toxic power politics has resulted in members losing sight of our main purpose which is to uplift the Malay entrepreneurs and business community in the country,“ he said.

On Nov 8, Syed Hussein Al Habshee and 17 other members had called for an EGM to force the removal of Rizal.

The matter was also brought to the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Nov 21 and the court has ruled that the dispute should be discussed and resolved in the Chamber Executive Meeting (MED).

An MED was held on the same day, but made no headway in resolving the dispute.
