PETALING JAYA: Since the launch of the e-Tunai Rakyat on Jan 15, the use of e-wallets has picked up pace.

One of the e-wallet service providers, Touch ‘n Go eWallet, has extended its payment system to the Southern Integrated Terminal in Bandar Tasik Selatan.

Another provider, GrabPay announced that the number of users of its e-wallet service has doubled since the government began offering a RM30 sign-up bonus for users.

Touch ‘n Go said in a press statement yesterday that it was offering travellers an easy yet secure alternative when they pay for their bus tickets.

It said the service would be extended to more bus terminals.

About 13,000 travellers go through the Bandar Tasik Selatan bus terminal every day.

In a separate statement, GrabPay managing director Ooi Huey Tyng said the e-Tunai initiative had help to double the number of users of its e-wallet service.

“For every two applicants for the RM30 that the government is giving to e-wallet users, one is a new applicant for our e-wallet service,” she said.

She said the number of daily active users of its service had also doubled since the e-Tunai initiative was launched.

She added that half of those who have received the RM30 disbursement have already spent the money, and more than 70% of them had made purchases at GrabPay merchants.
