Farhash sues Yusoff Rawther for defamation

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak (pix) has filed a suit against Muhammed Yusoff Rawther for defamation.

Farhash, 38, filed the suit last Friday (Jan 24) through the legal firm of Messrs. Kumar Thangaraju & Co. He named Muhammed Yusoff, 27, who is Anwar’s former research officer as the defendant.

The media obtained a copy of the document after the case management, which was held in the chambers of High Court deputy registrar Rumaizah Baharom.

Lawyer T. Kumar, representing Farhash, told reporters today that the writ of summons had not been served to the defendant (Muhammed Yusoff).

In the statement of claim, Farhash, who is also Perak PKR chairman, stated that Muhammed Yusoff had called for a media conference in the Klang Valley on Oct 4 last year and a video recording of it was uploaded on the Facebook page of “Solidariti Buat Muhammed Yusoff Rawter” and other social media platforms.

Farhash claimed that during the media conference, Muhammed Yusoff alleged that he was physically assaulted by him (Farhash).

He claimed that Muhammed Yusoff had maliciously published the alleged defamatory words to injure his image and reputation as a politician in PKR.

Farhash said a letter of demand was sent to Muhammed Yusoff on Dec 30 last year seeking the latter to apologise.

However, he said, Muhammed Yusoff, through a letter dated Dec 31 from a law firm, Messrs. Haniff Khatri, denied the allegations.

Farhash is seeking, among others, general, aggravated and exemplary damages, as well as an injunction to prevent Mohamed Yusoff from further publishing and/or continuing to publish the alleged defamatory words against him and other relief deemed fit by the court. - Bernama
