Female soldier pleads not guilty to caught hurting on son

KUALA LUMPUR: A soldier pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today with causing injury on her eight-year-old son from a previous marriage by caning the boy on the legs and hands.

The 31-year-old woman, who has another child from her new husband, made the plea before judge Mahyon Talib.

She was alleged to have committed the offence at a house in Jalan Padang Tembak here at 1 pm last July 21.

The charge was made under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which provides a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to 20 years, or both, if found guilty.

Mahyon allowed the woman bail of RM8,000 with one surety and also ordered her to hand over the boy to his father pending disposal of the case.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurliyana Mohd Jafri prosecuted, while the woman was unrepresented.

The court set Sept 28 for mention.-Bernama
