KUCHING: Employers are recommended to carry out a risk assessment and upgrade their work procedure by practicing a high standard of cleanliness and implement the usage of face masks to avoid virus infection among employees.

Sarawak Department of Occupational Safety and Health director Dr Nor Halim Hasan said personal protection equipment or PPE must be provided as well as implementation of other additional preventive measures, particularly for workers stationed at the state’s entry points.

“They have to take precautionary steps as they are directly exposed to patients and visitors with symptoms (of diseases),“ he said yesterday.

He said employers who failed to take preventive measures in protecting their employees from infectious diseases could be fined.

“We are not only focusing on 2019-nCoV virus (2019 novel coronavirus) but all types of health diseases affecting the employees as well,“ he said. — Bernama
