GEORGE TOWN: Pakatan Harapan will need to aggressively focus on addressing the plight of the bottom 40 (B40) group in order to drown out the voice of extremism, says author and commentator, Kee Thuan Chye (pix).

The Penangite was speaking recently during the launch of his latest book titled The People’s Victory.

He was accompanied by Prof Zaharom Nain, a board member of the Centre to Combat Corruption & Cronyism (C4 Center), who also lectures at the University of Nottingham Malaysia campus.

Kee leapt to the defence of the Pakatan government over recent criticisms over unfulfilled promises and urged Malaysians to be patient.

“You are gauging their progress in six months. You need to bear in mind the Barisan Nasional government was in power for 61 years. It is a bit unfair to expect too expect too much from a relatively new government,“ he said.

Kee, 64, added that it was also important to ensure the existence of the rule of law and good governance.

He said the challenge to escape from the culture of identity politics as the people have been conditioned to it for more than 50 years.

“It is not easy to restructure the social framework, but try, we must,“ said Kee.

He also expressed hope that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed will correct the mistakes of the previous administration so that the present one which he leads can regain the progressive momentum which Malaysia enjoyed before.
