KUALA LUMPUR: The defence proceedings in the case involving Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor on the charge of accepting a RM2-million bribe from a businessman today was postponed to Feb 18 as the former Federal Territories Minister injured his right knee after giving his statement in court last Friday.
Tengku Adnan, 69, fell while going down the steps in the witness stand after he gave his statement at the High Court here.
Counsel Datuk Tan Hock Chuan who represented Tengku Adnan informed Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan that his client had been given six days medical leave beginning Jan 17.
“My client incurred injury to his right knee and results of a CT Scan (Computed Tomography Scan) show that the injury was not serious.
“We apologise for the inconvenience and ask that the court proceedings be extended,” he said.
Today and tomorrow had been set for for Tengku Adnan to continue giving his sworn statement on the witness stand after the High Court ordered him on Oct 14 to enter his defence on the charge of accepting a RM2-million bribe from Tan Sri Chai Kin Kong who is also the asset management director of Kayamas Sdn Bhd (AKSB).
Deputy public prosecutor Julia Ibrahim did not object to the postponement of the case.
Judge Mohamed Zaini set Feb 18 to 20, Mar 4 and 5, as well as Mar 25 to 27 for the trial.
Tengku Adnan was charged in his capacity as a public servant, namely, the Federal Territories Minister then, to having accepted for himself RM2 million from Chai via a Hong Leong Islamic Bank cheque belonging to AKSB which was later deposited into the CIMB Bank account of Tadmansori Holdings Sdn Bhd in which he had an interest, when it was known that Aset Kayamas had connection to his official duties.
The offence was allegedly committed at the Pusat Bandar Damansara branch of CIMB Bank Berhad here on June 14, 2016,
Tenku Adnan is being charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both, if convicted. — Bernama
