Lovebirds among three in remand for murder of PJ pub manager (Updated)

PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a man and a woman in connection with the brutal murder of a bar manager who was slashed to death by a gang of men at a nightspot in Section 8, here early on Sunday following an apparent misunderstanding.

Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din said this brings to five the number of suspects arrested so far.

“Most of the suspects in custody now have been arrested previously in other districts for violent crime cases,“ he added.

Police had initially arrested three men at the scene who have since been remanded.

The latest suspects, the man and the woman, were taken to Petaling Jaya magistrate’s court where the magistrate’s court issued a seven-day remand order against the couple and three bouncers to facilitate the police investigation.

The order against the five suspects, aged between 20 and 31, were issued by magistrate’s court registrar Hairol Azhar Mohd Ishak.

They will be in remand until this Sunday for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Selangor CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat said police have yet to establish a motive for the murder.

However, statements from witnesses have been recorded and the police have also obtained a CCTV recording of the incident.

The police said the deceased, Edward Rishal S. Reggie, worked as a manager at a bar in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.

In the incident, Edward was brutally slashed to death by at least five men armed with machetes outside a bar at 8 Avenue, Jalan Sungai Jernih 8/1, here.

He died of slash wounds to his head and body.

Fadzil had earlier said that initial investigations showed that an hour before the victim was attacked, there was a heated argument outside the bar among a group of men.
