PETALING JAYA: Mohamad Edi Mohamad Rias aka “Edi Rejang” — the man at the centre of the beer promoter storm — had lost his job after the company where he worked for more than 10 years, sacked him.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said Edi Rejang was sacked after a video where he was seen berating a beer promoter at a non-halal section in a hypermarket in Ampang recently, went viral.

“The perpetrator who was berating the beer promoter in the video, was sacked two days ago,“ Lim told theSun today.

When contacted however, a spokesperson from the company, refused to confirm his sacking or comment about the issue.

Earlier yesterday, Lim offered to help Edi Rejang with lawyers and also to arrange a meeting between him and the promoter he had publicly berated.

Lim said that DAP will provide lawyers to accompany Edi when he is called up by the police to give his statement.

“It is on record that he has apologised unreservedly, so we will help him with lawyers when he goes in for questioning at the Ampang Jaya police headquarters,” he said.

In a video posted on Lim’s Facebook account, Edi Rejang said he would like to meet the young woman he had insulted and apologise to her in person, as he had he acted emotionally and regretted his actions.

In the video clip, Edi apologised again and claimed that he is not a racist.

“I would like to openly apologise to her. I went in the non-halal section and I made a mistake as a human and I would like to apologise to all Malaysians,” he said.

“Whoever has seen this video, please forgive me, because I have learned my lesson. I asked for help from YB Lim because I’m not racist or anti-Chinese. At the time I wrote my status that was derogatory and vulgar towards the promoter, but that was spontaneous,” he added.
