MCO: Sabah security forces maintain stepped-up vigilance against illegal entry

KOTA KINABALU: As the Movement Control Order (MCO) over Covid-19 enters its second two-week period at midnight tonight, the security forces have vowed to maintain stepped-up vigilance to prevent people from entering Sabah illegally.

Sabah (Region 4) Marine Police Force commander ACP Mohamad Pajeri Ali (pix) said the security forces will focus greater attention on the rat trails that are used to enter the state, especially in the Tawau district.

He also said that there will be close monitoring to deter the entry of members of the Tabligh movement who are believed to be in Indonesia.

“I advise members of the Tabligh movement to contact the National Security Council (MKN) directly if they want to return to the state,” he told reporters here today.

Recently, 24 members of the Tabligh movement who attended an international gathering in Sulawesi, Indonesia, were escorted by security forces to a quarantine centre in the Tawau district.

Mohamad Pajeri said there has been no attempt by anyone to enter Sabah illegally during the period of the MCO that came into force on March 18.

“No one has sneaked in. We await instructions from MKN, whether to escort anyone or any group and so on,” he said.

He said the Marine Police Force and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) work closely to monitor the movement of vessels in Sabah waters.

“We have deployed our assets and personnel for the monitoring in Sabah waters during the MCO,” he added. - Bernama
