NEW YORK: Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin (pix) was the guest-of-honour at the 2019 National Day and Malaysia Day reception held at the country’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations (UN) here Thursday night.

The event saw the presence of diplomats from many countries who were treated to Malaysian food as well as traditional dance performances by colourfully-attired children.

In his remarks, Muhyiddin, who is on a visit to New York, said Malaysia would continue to play an active role in various platforms at regional and international levels.

At the UN, he said, Malaysia looked forward to continuing extensive collaboration through various established mechanisms and frameworks.

He said this was with a view to promoting the maintenance of international peace and security as well as socio-economic development of the people.

“We count on the support and close cooperation of our partners,“ Muhyiddin said.

He further said that through decades of growth and development, Malaysia had prospered to become a multiracial, multi-religious and multicultural nation with unique identities.

“Our story serves as a strong foundation for Malaysia to progress on its path towards greater development, modernisation and shared prosperity,“ said Muhyiddin, who was joined at the event by Malaysia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Datuk Syed Mohamad Hasrin Aidid. — Bernama
