Opposition leader lauds police for making arrests, slams Guan Eng for making statements

KUALA LUMPUR: The Opposition today accused DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng of interference.

Its leader Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaacob (pix) said Lim’s statement making guarantees that the police will not make anymore arrests is equivalent to interfering with police investigations.

“The police should not be pressured into doing something as this concerns the safety of our country. They should be allowed to pursue an investigation if there is a lead,“ he said at a press conference at the Parliament today

He was commenting on the police who made the arrests of seven people, including two assemblyperson over suspected links to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

He also said he hoped the Attorney-General will act fairly and take the necessary action once the police have concluded their investigations.

“We hope the AG will act fairly this time around,“ he said.

Meanwhile, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said he hoped there was no one trying to protect those who were at the wrong end of the law.

“We welcome strict measures taken so that Malaysia will not become a base for terrorists,“ he said.
