KUANTAN: All Pahang state executive council (Exco) members have agreed to a 10% cut from their salaries for three months to help those who are adversely affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail (pix) said based on the Exco meeting today, the salary cut would start in April and the collection would be channelled to the Pahang Covid-19 Fund set up by the state government.
“This decision was made based on the Exco members’ sense of responsibility and sympathy towards the people of all races, ages and occupations who are adversely affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.
“Hopefully this will encourage more people to come forward and contribute to help those in need,” he said in a statement here today.
On another note, Wan Rosdy described the announcement by Bank Negara Malaysia on a six-month moratorium for loan repayments would help ease the burden of the people.
He said those most affected by the spread of Covid-19 were the self-employed, small traders and daily wage earners who were unable to continue their economic activities following the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) since March 18.
“What is happening now is making them incapable of generating income and making it difficult to repay the loans. This move will ease their financial burden,” he said.
The MCO was implemented to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus and Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today announced the extension of MCO implementation period until April 14. - Bernama
