Parade to celebrate Kedah ruler’s installation tomorrow

ALOR STAR: There will be a 21-float parade at Dataran Medan Bandar tomorrow night (Dec 18) to celebrate the installation of Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah as the 29th ruler of Kedah.

The parade themed “Kedah, peaceful and prosperous under Tuanku”, will include the 25m-long barge, Bahtera Layang Emas, which was used by Sultan Sallehuddin and Sultanah Maliha Tengku Ariff as conveyance in the royal procession on Oct 20.

The parade which begins at 8pm and ends at 11pm will feature cultural dances, silat, a band, vintage motorcycles and more.

Parade organising committee chairman, Tan Kok Yew, said in a statement today that the participants of the parade include government departments at the district, state and federal level, statutory bodies, government-linked companies, private enterprises and non-governmental organisations.

For the purpose of the parade, Tan, who is also the state industry, investment, local government and housing committee chairman said there will be road closures starting today at 6pm for the main parade route from the signalled junction at Lebuhraya Darulaman to Dataran Bandar in front of Masjid Zahir.

“Other roads which will be closed include the signalled junction at Hospital Lama Alor Star as well as the Bakar Bata, Kanchut/Bina Darulaman Sdn Bhd, Tambang Badak, Istana Lama, Mahkamah Lama and Pekan Melayu junctions.

“The parade will end at Jalan Stadium and the floats will be parked at Stadium Darul Aman to give people a chance to take photographs and get a closer look,“ said Tan.

For those who are unable to watch the parade tomorrow, there’s still a chance to catch the dress rehearsal tonight at 8pm. — Bernama
