People must cooperate with govt to beat Covid-19: Chow Kon Yeow

GEORGE TOWN: The people can help to defeat the Covid-19 by cooperating with the authorities, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow (pix) said today.

He said they should also encourage their families, friends and communities to also work with the authorities to address the outbreak.

In his daily social media post, Chow said the people should be patient and obey the movement control order (MCO) issued by the government.

He said that while the situation remained “confusing and challenging”, the state government would continue to function and everything would be done to protect the people.

The state government has been distributing hand sanitisers and thermometers to resident associations as well as management corporations for use by those who do not have access to these items.

Chow said the state would continue to procure face masks from abroad.

Earlier, Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin, Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim Chee Keong and Tanjung Bungah assemblyman Zairil Khir Johari visited popular wet markets and coffee shops to urge patrons to practise social distancing and to have their temperature checked before going out to crowded places.

Zairil said there should be only one entry and one exit at such places to make it easier to manage the crowd and to curb the spread of the virus.
