JOHOR BARU: Four teenage boys aged 16 to 17 were arrested early this morning at the 18 to 20 km stretch of Jalan Johor Bahru-Pontian, as part of ‘’Op Samseng Jalanan’’, an operation targeting road thugs.

In the operation conducted from 12.01am to 2.30am, the youngsters were arrested for not possessing valid motorcycle licences and for riding the motorcycles at a high speed which put other road users at risk, said Johor Baru Utara district police chief ACP Mohd Taib Ahmad in a statement.

A team of enforcement officers conducting the operation had observed the teenagers engaged in high-speed antics three times along the stretch of road.

Mohd Taib said the teenagers were later released to their families who had posted bail, while investigations on their offences in connection with section 81(3) of the Road Transport Act 1987 are underway.

Police also seized 14 modified motorcycles along the same stretch of road and which were believed to have been used in illegal races, while a total of 28 summonses were issued during the operation for various offences. — Bernama
