SEREMBAN: Communication infrastructures near some residential areas will not cause a health hazard to humans, said Negeri Sembilan Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Its director Mohd Khairilnaim Osman said the infrastructures were constructed or placed following international standards.

He said the National Nuclear Agency had conducted radiation tests on a tower in Rasah Kemayan here as well as several locations under the coverage of the communication infrastructure.

The tests showed that radio frequency radiation emitted from this communication infrastructure is very low and at a safe level, he said.

“Radiation emitted from the telecommunication towers belongs to the non-ionizing radiation which does not have enough energy to release electrons or carry out changes in atomic structure. Therefore, the allegations that the radiation will cause health hazards are baseless,“ he told Bernama.

Mohd Khairilnaim advised the public to refer to authentic sources or government-recognised experts to avoid misunderstanding this radiation issue.

He said the Negeri Sembilan government had approved the use of the Guidelines on Objections to Communication Infrastructure to safeguard the people’s rights to live and work in a safe environment and free from unsafe conditions.

The telecommunications industry would also use the guidelines as a reference for the development of telecommunications infrastructure in the state, he added. — Bernama
