Reach out and be key communicators: KKMM sec-gen

SHAH ALAM: The Communication and Multimedia Ministry workforce and its agencies have been urged to play the role of key communicators capable of being responsive, efficient and effective in disseminating information on current issues and the government’s initiatives.

Ministry secretary-general Datuk Suriani Ahmad (pix) said such abilities can be generated through the sharing and exchange of information with strategic partners capable of transforming the ministry workforce into trusted government agents of information.

“It is our responsibility to inform and explain to society the people-orientated programmes and government policies that advocate and protect the people’s wellbeing.

“As such, we have to be conscious of these information sharing and exchange programmes with strategic partners in our efforts to reach out far and wide.

“Indirectly, it also prevents society from fake news and perceptions,” she said in her speech at the official opening of the ‘’2019 Central Zone Current Issues Briefing Session: National Anti-Corruption Plan and Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra)’’ at the Dewan Jubli Perak, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah building here yesterday.

Her speech text was read by ministry deputy secretary-general Shakib Ahmad Shakir.

Suriani said ministry key communicators must be aware and sensitive of issues raised when applying persuasive communication with the people.

Towards this end, the ministry workforce must be astute when disseminating information to the public by using the right channels and approach based on age, religion, race, cultural background, access to communication and social standing.

The briefings yesterday were presented by speakers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Mitra. — Bernama
