Reward will encourage more people to come forward to fight corruption

PORT KLANG: Offering a reward to civil servants who expose corruption and embezzlement is seen as a positive strategy and can encourage more individuals to come forward with information on such cases.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Latheefa Koya (pix) said the reward would also promote transparency and integrity among civil servants.

“Any individual should not be afraid to come forward to fight corruption in the country. In fact, civil servants who provide information to the MACC, will be rewarded,” she told reporters after attending the launching of Royal Customs Department anti-corruption campaign here today.

The campaign was launched by the department director-general Datuk Seri Paddy Abd Halim.

Latheefa was commenting on a statement that civil servants who disclose misconduct and embezzlement would be awarded cash incentives worth up to RM30,000 by the Finance Ministry.

However, she said the reward initiative was not new and had been implemented by the MACC long ago but was not well received by the public, including civil servants. — Bernama
