KUCHING: A total of 1,210 officers and members of the state Civil Defence Force (CDF) are ready to be mobilised to handle possible flood situations across Sarawak in facing the northeast monsoon season starting next month until March.

State Disaster Management Committee secretariat head Major (PA) Ismail Mahedin said apart from manpower, CDF had also made necessary preparations in terms of assets put on standby.

He explained this included increasing the number of boats from 46, last year, to 69 this year.

“In addition, CDF has also prepared five drone units, 17 lorries, 19 four-wheel-drive vehicles and 13 ambulances,” he said in a statement here today.

According to him, further meeting on disaster management at the federal level has been scheduled on Oct 16 in Putrajaya and will be chaired by deputy prime minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also the chairman of the Disaster Management Committee. — Bernama
