PUTRAJAYA: A senior official of Tabung Haji has been remanded for four days by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate claims of corruption.

Magistrate Shah Wira Abdul Halim granted MACC the order under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to facilitate investigations.

The accused’s lawyer Datuk Shaharudin Ali said that his client is being investigated under Section 17A of the MACC Act for allegedly accepting bribes from an agent.

MACC had requested for a seven-day remand but Shaharudin pleaded for three days only.

He told reporters that his client’s remand could be extended on Sunday should the MACC seek an extension.

The accused was detained by MACC at 3pm yesterday following questioning.

His arrest is in connection with the probe by the MACC surrounding the use of Tabung Haji’s interior decorator contractor to build wardrobes at his house.

Police are also probing Tabung Haji over misappropriation of funds.
