Shocking that Opposition is jeopardising national unity, says Kit Siang

PETALING JAYA: Opposition leaders must repent and play their part to curb fake news and hate speech dominating the social media, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang (pix) said today.

He expressed shock that these leaders, who were in the government, are defying royal advice and are being reckless in jeopardising national unity.

The Iskandar Puteri MP was responding to Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah’s call to foster unity instead of provoking or issuing slanderous statements on the social media that could jeopardise the country’s peace and security.

“Every incident from crimes on the road to the disciplinary action of teachers in schools or employers at the workplace, the colour of leaders’ attire, errors in raising the national flag, and changes in school curriculum were being negatively interpreted according to racial and religious dimensions,” Sultan Nazrin had said.

Lim also shared Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s statement on his official Selangor Royal Office Facebook page in conjunction with the 62nd National Day celebrations on Saturday who reminded Malaysians to practice tolerance and strive to understand each other.

“Celebrate the differences in customs, culture, and religion so we can continue to live in an atmosphere of independence in the real meaning of the word,“ Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had said.
