Sivagangga super spreader might be the cause of possible Covid-19 third wave

GEORGE TOWN: A 57-year old carrier of the highly infectious Covid-19 virus has drawn criticism from netizens as his act of breaching a home quarantine order has seen the green zone status in the northern region wiped out.

The nasi kandar restaurant owner, who is currently warded under isolation, is the index case which has seen 43 persons becoming infected.

In Penang, one doctor contracted the virus while visiting Napoh over the Hari Raya Aidiladha period, while one family of 10 in Kodiang, Perlis has also become infected.

Kedah was already reeling with four sub-districts under a targeted movement control order status where they must all stay home and have food delivered to their door steps for the next 14-days.

Out of the 25 new cases reported in Malaysia today, 12 came from the Sivagangga cluster, which is named after the place in India that the owner had resided before coming back to Malaysia on July 22 where he holds a permanent resident status.

And for becoming a super spreader and the cause of the possible third wave of infections up north, the man was only slapped with a RM1,000 compound for breaching his home quarantine order.

Kubang Pasu district police chief Supt Mohd Ismail Ibrahim said that the man was fined for his lapse in judgement.

A customer was also praised for making viral the photograph of the owner lazying around his outlet with a pink bracelet seen on his wrist.

Altogether 43 cases as of now, were linked to this man, including in Kulim when a multinational factory saw its operations disrupted when one worker tested positive after coming back from Napoh.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow issued a statement to confirm that Penang has lost its green zone status for the first time in 91 - days.

The state held the record for the longest ever period of having a green zone status which is earned after there are no repetitive cases for 14 - days.
