PETALING JAYA: Thermal scanners have been placed at the departure and arrival gates of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad said the body temperature of all passengers departing from the KLIA main terminal will be checked.
Thermal scanning from March 23, which will continue until further notice, will only allow departing passengers, staff and crew with body temperature below 37.5 degrees Celcius, to move on to check-in areas.
“This is one of our many efforts to combat the Covid-19 outbreak and ensure the safety of all passengers and the airport community,” MAHB said in its social media posting.
Meanwhile, thermal scanners placed at arrival halls at KLIA and klia2 continue to screen passengers returning from abroad.
Medical personnel are stationed at airports to explain to Malaysians returning home, to practice self-quarantine for 14 days.
Those returning from Iran and Italy via special chartered flights will be placed at quarantine centres for 14 days prior to their release into public.
The specially chartered AirAsia flight and its 24-man flight crew which flew home 46 Malaysians, eight Singaporeans and one Indonesian from Tehran, landed at 6.25am on March 22.
Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar said they have since been placed at a monitoring centre in Bandar Enstek, Nilai, Negri Sembilan, undergoing a 14-day quarantine.
Likewise, those returning from Italy comprising 81 Malaysians, arrived home on March 26. Kamaruddin said they were sent to the Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT) for quarantine for a 14 days.
Iran and Italy have recorded high numbers of Covid-19 infections and fatalities.
