KOTA KINABALU: Two men including a non-governmental organisation president pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to dishonest misappropriation of property involving RM34,000.
Pertubuhan Gagasan Ekonomi Bumiputera Sabah (PGEBS) president Jismit Japong, 54 and self-employed Mohd Hafiz Anuar, 36, made the plea after the charge was read out before Judge Abu Bakar Manat.
The offence was allegedly committed at RHB Bank, Block B Bangunan Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja, Jalan Karamunsing, Kota Kinabalu between May and July 2012 under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of five years and whipping, and a fine, upon conviction.
They were allowed bail of RM10,000 each with one surety and ordered to surrender their passport to the court and to report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission office once every two months.
Earlier, MACC prosecuting officer Faliq Basiruddin suggested bail be set at RM15,000 each.
However, lawyer PJ Perira, representing Jismit, and Mohd Hafiz, who was unrepresented, asked for a lower bail amount, saying that they had children to support.
The court set Oct 15 for mention of the case. — Bernama
