NILAI: Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia through its Ibnu Ummi Maktum Research Centre has produced the first of its kind application that enables those with hearing impairment learn to read the Quran.

The project chief Norakyairee Mohd Raus said the content of the application including the Quran translation had received approval from the Federal Territories Islamic Legal Consultative Committee.

“To date, we have completed 11 chapters and funds are needed to finish the remaining 103 chapters,“ he said in a statement here today.

The application project was launched by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa at the Karnival Rahmah 2019 event in Dataran Putrajaya on Sept 27.

At the launch, Mujahid also presented a mock cheque of RM100,000 from the Taqwa Foundation as a starting fund for the development of the Quran application for the Deaf community. — Bernama
