PETALING JAYA: When a couple was out shopping for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations, two burglars sought their fortune at their house in Damansara Jaya. While the burglars were busy ransacking the place, the couple had returned.

In a dashcam footage that went viral on the social media, the house owner and his wife were driving into their house’s driveway when they noticed that their gate was open and an SUV was parked in their driveway.

The couple then stopped their car in front of the parked car and then screamed that they were being robbed as two masked men were seen entering the SUV to flee.

The robbers rammed the couple’s car that was in their way out and managed to drive away.

Petaling Jaya OCPD, Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din said the incident took place on Tuesday (Jan 21) at 2.36pm.

“Among the items that were stolen were a laptop, camera and handphone as well as foreign currency cash totaling RM2,622.”

“Checks on the suspects’ car number plate, which was recorded, was found to be false,“ said Zani

He said police are investigating the case under Sections 457 and 427 of the Penal Code for house break-in and mischief amounting to damage.

He added that closed-circuit television (CCTV) in surrounding areas will be scrutinised to help with investigations as the victim’s house was not equpped with CCTV’s.

Section 457 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum 14-year imprisonment sentence upon conviction whereas offences under section 427 is punishable with imprisonment for a term of not less than one year and not more than five years or with fine or both.
