MALACCA: Residents here have started storing water in preparation for a possible disruption in water supply.

A Bernama observation found that many people have started storing water since yesterday to ensure sufficient clean supply in case of a water cut.

Trader Ibrahim Mohomaad Noor, 44, said he had already bought water containers and started storing water.

“Even though the government has given the assurance that there will not be a water crisis in Malacca, I am storing water in case there is a disruption of supply,” Ibrahim, who has three children in primary school, told Bernama here today.

Housewife Norhayati Latiff, 39, from Duyong, was also seen storing water, as she said she read many comments on the social media advising the public to do so.

However, the mother of five said she had no plans to increase the number of water containers in her home as she was confident the state government could resolve the problem. “I hope the relevant bodies like Syarikat Air Melaka Berhad (SAMB) will inform the public at least one day before water supply is cut so that we can take early precautions” she said. — Bernama
