Gov't to gather public feedback on AES, Kejara demerit system

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will gather input from the public before the Automated Enforcement System (AES) and the Kejara demerit system are re-implemented this year.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said he has directed the Road Transport Department to gather feedback from the public about the systems.
"The AES is a good system, but however, it was badly implemented," he said.
Speaking at a press conference, Liow said the AES cameras helped reduce the accident rates in the country and save lives.
"We want to ensure that the system used is effective," he said.
The AES system was shelved in 2011 due to enforcement and feasibility issues.
It was proposed to begin in 2012 but met with strong public objections.
