MUAR: Pakatan Harapan's (PH) Muar candidate Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (pix) has pulled off what seemed to be an unlikely victory by winning the seat with a majority of 6,953 votes.
The PPBM Youth chief, who was labelled as a greenhorn kitten by Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders during the campaigning period, celebrated his landslide victory by thanking his supporters and Malaysians in general.
"Thank you Muar and Malaysia. I look forward to serving all of you. To those who entrusted their vote, thank you! I won't let you down. To those who didn't, I look forward to winning your trust," he posted on Twitter today.
Syed Saddiq also had some positive words for his fellow Muar candidates Datuk Seri Razali Ibrahim of Barisan Nasional and Abdul Aziz Talib of PAS, saying they too would play an important role in building Muar.
"To my fellow opponents, revenge politics is not in my dictionary. Rebuild Malaysia together," he said.
"This victory is just the beginning. I didn't enter politics just to win. I entered to ensure Malaysia will rise once more as the Asian tiger."
Syed Saddiq won the seat with a total of 22,341 votes, compared with Razali's 15,388 and Abdul Aziz's 4,354.
