Philadelphia Flyers forward Sean Couturier will be sidelined at least two weeks with a rib injury, the team announced Saturday.

The Flyers referred to the injury as a Costochondral separation, which occurs when the rib tears away from the cartilage that connects it to the breastbone.

Couturier sustained the injury early in the first period of Philadelphia's 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday.

The 28-year-old Couturier collected 59 points (22 goals, 37 assists) and a plus-21 rating in 69 games last season. He was named the Selke Trophy recipient as the best defensive forward in the NHL.

Couturier notched an assist in the Flyers' 6-3 win against the Penguins in the season opener on Wednesday. He has 402 points (156 goals, 246 assists) in 647 career games since Philadelphia selected him with the eighth overall pick of the 2011 NHL Draft.
