Malakoff to explore rooftop solar development with KPDRM

KUALA LUMPUR: Malakoff Corporation Bhd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Koperasi Polis Diraja Malaysia Bhd (KPDRM) to assess the feasibility of jointly developing rooftop solar projects at selected Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) building premises in Peninsular Malaysia.

In a statement today, Malakoff said the collaboration comes under the Net Energy Metering 3.0 scheme, or for self-consumption programme, whereby electricity generated from solar energy would be supplied to PDRM under a long-term solar power purchase agreement.

“The power generated from these rooftop solar projects will be at a lower tariff than the electricity tariff from the national grid, thus resulting in potential cost savings for PDRM,” said the independent water and power producer.

Managing director and chief executive officer Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib said the collaboration with KPDRM is yet another milestone in Malakoff’s expansion in the renewable energy (RE) segment as the group embarks on a transformation journey towards decarbonisation by 2050.

“To date, we have successfully secured rooftop solar projects with a total capacity of 22.32 megawatts with several reputable clients, and we will continue to explore potential opportunities with strategic partners such as PDRM,” he said.

According to the statement, Malakoff had recently secured six rooftop solar projects with the DRB-HICOM Group in addition to its collaboration with mall operator, AEON Co. (M) Bhd and logistics industry players such as Northport (Malaysia) Bhd, Johor Port Bhd, and Pos Malaysia Bhd.

“All these projects combined will generate 33,243 megawatt-hour per annum and neutralise 23,070 tonnes of carbon emissions per year,” it said. - Bernama
