LUMUT: A fruit trader was stabbed to death by his friend following a misunderstanding over debts in an incident at a car workshop in Jalan Kampung Selamat, Sitiawan near here today.

Manjung District police chief ACP Nor Omar Sappi said in the incident at about 12.50pm, the 42-year-old victim had gone to the workshop belonging to the 51-year-old suspect to collect an amount of money owed to him before a scuffle ensued.

“The victim was believed to have hit the suspect and took a knife at the workshop. The suspect managed to take the knife from the victim before stabbing him on the neck and stomach,” he said when met at the scene.

Nor Omar said the suspect, covered in blood then surrendered himself at the Sitiawan Police Station at about 1.20 pm adding that during the incident the suspect’s brother who is in his 40s and the victim’s 15-year-old son, were also at the workshop.

“So far, we have recorded statements from three individuals including the suspect’s brother and the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he said.

He said the body was taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Ipoh for post-mortem. — Bernama
