PADANG BESAR: The General Operations Force (PGA) in Ulu Kinta, Perak, seized 1,055 kg of ketum leaves valued at RM158,250 during the Op Wawasan Kedah / Perlis early this morning.

Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah 1st Battalion Commanding Officer DSP Samad Abdullah, said that in the 1.45am incident, the authorities were carrying out operations at the border fence near the warehouse of the Perlis State Economic Development Corporation.

“They saw a group of men unloading something but realising the presence of the police, the group believed to be locals, fled to a nearby bush area,“ he said in a statement today.

Upon inspection, they found 44 red sacks and five white sacks which were believed to contain ketum leaves. The fence had also been cut so that the ketum leaves could be moved across, Samad said.

He said a police report had been made and the case was being investigated under Section 30 (3) of the Poisons Act 1952. — Bernama
