JOHOR BARU: A six-month-old boy was nearly killed when the house he lives in with his mother and grandmother was destroyed in a fire incident at Kampung Melayu Majidee here this morning.

The fire which began in one of the rooms of the house, also destroyed the house next door, owned by a relative.

Tebrau Fire and Rescue Station Senior Assistant Fire Superintendent Saiful Bahri Safar said the incident was reported at 9.58 am, and 21 firemen aboard three engines from the Tebrau and Johor Bahru stations were rushed to the scene to put out the fire.

At the time of the incident, the baby was at home with his grandmother, who is disabled, while his mother had gone to work.

“The fire destroyed 85 and 75% of the two structures respectively, but no fatalities were reported as all the victims were rescued by the public,” he said in a statement, here, today.

The cause of the fire and the estimated loss were still under investigation, he added. — Bernama
