BANGKOK: A total of 829,787 Thai tourists visited Malaysia in the first five months of 2019.

Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand Datuk Jojie Samuel said Thai tourist arrivals recorded an increase of 2.5% as compared to 809,902 arrivals in the same period last year.

“Last year, 1.94 million Thai tourists visited our shores, Thailand was ranked 4th in contributing tourist arrivals to Malaysia,” he said at the launching of “Visit Truly Asia Malaysia 2020’’ in Bangkok, Thailand yesterday.

Jojie said Thai tourists are having more options to travel to Malaysia, by road, rail, sea, and air.

“For example, we share eight border land-crossing points, rail services from the Thai border to Malaysia. We also have many air routes from Thailand to Malaysia.

“Thanks also to the increase in air connectivity, attractive packages by travel agents to promote Malaysia as one of the top Thai family holiday destinations,” he said.

In conjunction with the Visit Truly Asia Malaysia 2020 promo campaign in Thailand, Tourism Malaysia launched a special package at 2,020 baht (RM278) in collaboration with Tanjung Point Residences (Penang) and is selling the package over four days at the Thai International Travel Fair 2019 (TITF #25).

Deputy director of Tourism Malaysia (Bangkok), Mazreena Mohd Yusof said a significant number of 2020 promotion packages have been created specifically for Visit Truly Asia Malaysia 2020.

She said it is a joint-collaboration to attract more Thais to Malaysia.

“Malaysia is keen to attract more Thai tourists to our shores through this incentive programme and the development of new tourism products.

“I hope these efforts will encourage our trade partners and friends from the media to continue promoting Malaysia as a preferred holiday destination,” she said. - Bernama
