KUALA LUMPUR: People need to appreciate and understand cultural diversity in order to build bridges of understanding and respect between various groups in society, said Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong.

He said that by appreciating these elements, society not only preserves the heritage of their ancestors but also strengthens social ties and enriches intergenerational understanding.

“Citing the Hari Raya feast he attended with the people of Kuala Kubu Bharu yesterday as an example, Sim said such a celebration highlights the importance of culture and history in strengthening unity in a diverse society.

“As I have always stressed, in any matter whether policy-making, determining direction or fostering unity, we cannot only focus on ‘hardware’ (matter) but need to pay attention to ‘heartware’ (heart). This is where the role of beauty and cultural arts comes in,” he said in a statement today.

Over 110 residents of Kuala Kubu Bharu, located at the foothills of Fraser’s Hill, attended the Aidilfitri celebration organised by the Kuala Kubu Bharu Historical Society (PES KUBU) at the Historical Gallery grounds in Kuala Kubu Bharu town yesterday.

At the event, visitors were entertained to cultural performances from various ethnic groups, including Indian dances, a Chinese orchestra, poetry recitations and much more.
