KUCHING: Sarawak Community Well-Being Assistant Minister, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis today said no syndicate was supplying drugs for free in the state as reported by Bernama on Wednesday.
In a statement received here, he said the information he shared during a media conference to table a periodical report of the One-Stop Committee to Address the Issue of Drugs and Substance Abuse (OSC MIDS) in Sarawak on the day concerned, had been misinterpreted.
“I wish to clarify that there is no syndicate supplying free drugs to students in Sarawak.
“The issue stated during the media conference was the drug trafficking activities which occurred in other states,” said Harden, who is also Sarawak OSC deputy chairman.
He said his reference to what was happening in other states was aimed as a reminder so that the same thing did not happen in Sarawak.
He also urged all quarters to continue cooperating in eradicating drug and substance abuse in the state.
He said under OSC MIDS for Sarawak, a standard operating procedure (SOP) on drug abuse and supplying drugs to school students had been enforced from Jan 18, 2019.
“With the enforcement of the SOP, several special procedures involving the handling of drug pushers have been improved to identify individuals who push drugs to school children,” he added. — Bernama
