KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry will enforce the festive season price control scheme for Christmas from Dec 23 to 27.

Sixteen types of products will come under the scheme which will ensure that their prices are not raised arbitrarily, it said in a statement distributed in Parliament today.

The goods placed under the scheme are:

- Live chicken

- Standard chicken (slaughtered and dressed, with head, feet, liver and gall bladder)

- Super chicken (slaughtered and dressed, without head, feet, liver and gall bladder)

- Live old chicken (maximum price in Sarawak only)

- Imported turkey

- Chicken wings (maximum price in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan only)

- Local mutton with bone (maximum price in the peninsula only)

- Imported mutton and lamb with bone

- Grade A eggs (between 65 gm and 69.9 gm)

- Grade B eggs (between 60 gm and 64.9 gm)

The ministry warned of firm action against traders who fail to adhere to the scheme under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.

It said traders can be penalised for selling price-control items above the maximum price and failing to place the pink price tags on these goods.

“The ministry enforcement officers will monitor and conduct checks at markets, farmers’ markets and supermarkets,” it said.
