PUTRAJAYA: The winner of the 1990 Kajai Award, former Berita Harian journalist, Tajuddin Saman, passed away at his house in Precinct 9, here today.

Tajuddin, 72, left behind wife, Rohmah Ibrahim, 63, six children, namely, five daughters and a son, and nine grandchildren.

Tajuddin, prior to this, was reported to have suffered a stroke and was bedridden since 2012.

According to Nurhani, 32, who is Tajuddin’s fifth child, the latter had just been discharged from the Putrajaya Hospital yesterday evening after undergoing treatment for cough since Friday.

‘’My mother, my youngest sister and I were by his bedside when he passed away. His passing is truly felt because I spent a lot of time looking after him after he became bedridden,’’ she said when met at the Sultan Zainal Abidin Mosque here.

She said prayers would be held for her father’s remains at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque after Maghrib.

The remains would be buried at the Taman Selatan Islamic Cemetery in Precinct 20 here after the Isyak prayers, she said.

His last post was as Press Secretary to Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid.

Tajuddin had also been a Press Secretary to the Kedah Mentri Besar Tan Sri Osman Arof and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Abdul Hamid Zainal Abidin.

He also wrote the book ‘Dari Kodiang Ke Jalan Riong’ on his career as a journalist. - Bernama
