PETALING JAYA: Two foreign men found to be in possession of illegally obtained MyKads have been apprehended during an enforcement operation in Alam Damai yesterday.

National Registration Department’s Enforcement Division told Harian Metro that the raid was the result of two weeks of intelligence gathering and monitoring in the area.

The two individuals, a 23-year-old Indonesian man and a 21-year-old Filipino, had obtained the MyKads by borrowing them from acquaintances in order to misrepresent their identities and secure employment unlawfully, without having to make any payments.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had been using the MyKads for periods ranging from two to six years.

Both men are expected to be charged in the Kuala Lumpur Magistrates’ Court for offences under Rule 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990.

If convicted, they could be sentenced to three years’ jail and ordered to pay up to RM30,000 fine or both.
