GEORGE TOWN: All international flights to and from Penang have been cancelled since today.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said all inbound flights would now land at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and passengers would disembark there to be quarantined.
“Even if they are from Penang or their final destination is Penang, they still have to land in KLIA first,” he said at his daily social media briefing.
“I hope we can all be patient and adhere to the latest instructions for everyone’s safety. Together we must break the infection chain of this pandemic,” Chow said.
In the meantime, Chow said Penang’s compliance rate (with regard to the MCO) dipped slightly on Saturday to 97.8%. On Friday, the state hit a high of 98%.
“We can reach 100% if every citizen cooperates,” the chief minister said.
Meanwhile, Penang has distributed 370,000 surgical masks to front-liners and to the 40 state assemblypersons.
An addition 230,000 gloves will also be channelled to the people here. Those in need of such items are encouraged to contact their respective state assemblypersons.
Penang has also received about RM1.5 million in the form of essential medical equipment such as masks, face shields, gloves, protection attire, blood pressure machines, ultrasound and dialysis equipment, computers, and printers.
The general public can also contribute, by making direct donations to the Penang General Hospital or the Penang Covid-19 fund through its Maybank Account Number 557 0546 209 30.
Chow also thanked the Buddhist Tzu-Chi Merits Society Malaysia (represented by its Commissioner Mr Khoo Boo Leong), who donated 3,000 face shields to Penang.
